Learning how to create a website without any coding skills is actually very simple. Once you have the right platform, there’s no need to worry!

I will be explaining the best 3 platforms for building your website. You may choose any one platform depending upon your business model and your needs.

These Platforms are WordPress, Wix and Shopify!

WordPress – Recommended for bloggers and Internet marketers. Also suitable for building business websites and online stores.

Wix – If you are planning to start a website for business, like for real estate, hotels, restaurants etc, Wix is the perfect platform. This is because of its design flexibility and the awesome website builder that comes with it.

Shopify – Primarily for people who are planning to sell their products online. Shopify is the best online store builder.

I have used all the three platforms and all the views expressed here are from my own personal experience.

Building a Website on WordPress

WordPress is one of the most used and the best platform on the internet. It powers more than 35% of the Internet.

They are capable of implementing any online business model that you know of. And, That’s why it’s a default option for most people.

WordPress is completely free. However, to use it we would need to buy a hosting platform so that our website is live all the time on the internet. Along with the host, you would also need a domain name so that people can easily identify your website.

These are the only 2 important things that you would need to buy to start building a website.

There are are a ton of hosting platforms and the best one I would recommend is Bluehost. Their hosting plans start as low as $2.95/month. Moreover, they give you a free domain and a free SSL certificate which saves you at least $20/year.

P.S – Want a little more discount on Bluehost? Do the following – 1. When you reach the checkout page after selecting your plan, allow the page to load. 2. Then move your cursor to top (over the chrome tabs). 3. A popup would appear that gives you a little more discount. Click on Claim savings and you could then buy it.

Bluehost is reliable and is one of the cheapest when compared with many of its competitors such as Siteground, WPX etc.

While selecting your domain name, make sure that it matches either your business name or closely relates to your business. You may not get the same domain name as your business as it depends on its availability.

PS – When you reach the checkout page of Bluehost, there will be a lot of other services pre-applied which costs a significant amount of money. They won’t be of use to you now and you can uncheck those before you pay.

After you buy from Bluehost, You would g through a series of steps which installs WordPress on your host. Read those instructions carefully and act accordingly.

WordPress is really easy to use. Once you play around with it, you will surely understand it even if you are not a tech kind of person.

Anyway here are some of basics of WordPress that you need to know.

Once You login to the WordPress, you will reach the dashboard which will look almost like this.

On the left menu, you would see the following:-

1. Posts – This is where you start creating blog posts for your website. To create a new blog post go to Posts -> New Post.
2. Media – Each and every photo or video that you use on your website will be seen here.
3. Pages – Pages are used for creating content like a landing page, about page, contact etc.
4. Comments – This is where you can approve, edit or delete a comment that has been posted on your website.
5. Appearance – WordPress allows you to customise your site in many ways. You could install a new theme, insert widgets, and even customise the CSS and other files of the website.
6. Plugins – This is one of the best things about WordPress. Plugins add additional functionality to your website such as email marketing, SEO toolkit etc.
7. Users – Users allows you to manage all the people who have access to your website. This is useful if you have multiple people managing your website.
8. Settings – There are a number of different setting here. I would probably advise you to keep it untouched.

As I said, WordPress is best for bloggers and Internet marketers, however other businesses still do use this because of its easiness and reliability.

Designing a Awesome website with WordPress

There are hundreds and thousands of themes available for WordPress. You can choose any one of your choice. You could also make additional changes to these themes.

You could easily do that with a plugin called Elementor. Elementor is a website builder which helps you build responsive websites without any coding skills.

To install Elementor, Go to Plugins -> Add New and search for Elementor.

Once you install and activate the plugin, Go to Pages -> Add New. Then click on Edit with Elementor.

You will be redirected to a page like this.

On the left side, you will see a lot of components which can be added to your website simply by clicking and dragging them to wherever you want.

Elementor is that simple!

Building A Website With Wix

If you are planning to build a professional website for your business, Wix is the best platform for you. It’s highly flexible and you get the ability to do anything you want on the website.

You get a drag and drop builder with plenty of components to add. If you have a few design skills, it would be very easy for you to set up an awesome site.

Wix, when compared to WordPress, excels in the designing part but is a bit pricier than setting up WordPress. But, it surely is worth the money considering its flexibility and an awesome website builder that doesn’t need any coding skills.

A Web developer may charge you at least $500-$1000 for a professional-looking website and you can save that huge amount by just investing a small amount of it on Wix.

Wix is free but some of the features are only available to their premium plans. The pricing of these premium plans starts at just $13/month. You also get a free domain name along with it.

However, If you are somehow from India, Wix is a lot cheaper. They have just one single premium plan and it’s priced at just $0.38/month! Insane! Right?

To be frank, Wix is a bit harder to use when compared with WordPress. But, once you master Wix and their awesome website editor, you could design your website in any way possible.

Depending on the business type you selected while signing up, you will have different options on the left menu of your dashboard.Since I selected my business type to be a blog, I have a menu that allows me to write and publish articles on my website.There are a lot of other tools that Wix provides too. Some of them are Email marketing tools, Analytics tools etc.The email marketing tool that Wix provides is a very smart feature in my opinion. It becomes easier for you to reach out to your subscribers or followers.

There is also an app market for Wix which lets you install different applications that provide additional functionalities. Some of them are:-

• Accepting Payments
• Membership Portal
• Online Store
• Chat application
• Event Management Platform
• And Much more.

Designing Your Website on Wix

To edit your website, go to “Dashboard” and then select “Site actions”, which brings a dropdown menu. From there, select “edit site”.

You will be redirected to their website builder. It will look something like this.

\The editor has a ton of features, and it’s confusing. So, eventually, it will take you some time in getting used to it.When you are trying to design your website, I would recommend you to go through some of the themes that Wix provides. Choose the one that you really like and then, edit it as per your needs.Most of the themes on Wix are modern and very attractive. Building a Website With Shopify

Shopify is basically an online store builder where you can sell your own products. It’s the best eCommerce platform on the internet right now.

So, this method is exclusively for those people who are planning to start an online store. If you have a physical product to sell, using Shopify is the best way.

Shopify has been in the industry for quite a long time and their customers have made multiple 6 – figure income using the platform.

They are a bit different when compared with WordPress and Wix. The main difference here would be the lack of a proper Website editor/builder. However, you can install a 3rd part app from the Shopify app store that lets you build and customize pages.Shopify is right now free for the first 90 days because of the worldwide pandemic. Basics of Shopify

This is how the dashboard will look like once you log into your Shopify account.

On the left menu, you have the following

1. Home – This is where all the important updates and other useful information appear.
2. Orders – When a customer buys a product from your store. You can process and track their orders from here.
3. Products – This is where you add in your products. Product details, images, price, shipping rates etc are all added from here.
4. Customers – If you have a login portal, you can manage your customers from here.
5. Analytics – This tab shows you the number of orders, visitors, returning customers and many others.
6. Marketing – This is where you can launch an ad campaign on Facebook, Google, Snapchat etc.
7. Discounts – Here you can create new discount coupons which can be shared with your customers to bring in more sales.
8. Apps – It is basically the Shopify app store. There are a ton of apps that you might need once you launch your online store.
9. Online Store – This is where you can manage the themes, blog posts, pages and other settings of your online store.
10. Settings – Here you can set up your payment provider, shipping rates, make your shipping policy and other legal pages etc.

Designing a website on Shopify

As I said, Shopify currently doesn’t have a much flexible website editor like Wix but you can create and edit pages using 3rd party apps.

Shopify has a lot of themes on their platform and you could use one from them. Once you choose a theme, you have ability to customize these themes to a certain extent.

To customize your theme go to Online Store -> Themes and then click on “Customize”.You can customize some of the basics of the website like colors, logo, images, checkout pages etc.

Once you make changes to your store, don’t forget to save it by clicking the button on the top right corner of the page.
